The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a (Warehouse Worker)– (Mercer, WV).
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Warehouse Worker operates a bailer machine to secure, package and bind large volumes of clothing. Loads and unloads trucks performing lifting of heavy objects on a regular basis. Assists in maintaining the neatness and orderliness of the warehouse area. Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. The Warehouse Worker will assist with loading, unloading, and sorting donations; moving donations and other materials into the warehouse; assist in the set-up, clean up and break down of the warehouse. He/she may also act in the capacity of a Truck Helper as needed. Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards. Receive, store, and distribute donations. Daily loading and unloading and placement of donated items into the warehouse. Ability to successfully interface with the public and Salvation Army donors in a variety of settings. Assist with can food drives, coat drives, toy drives and moving operations. Follow The Salvation Army policies and procedures at all times. Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow instructions and work independently
Knowledge of warehouse operations
Knowledge of inventory control techniques, as well as logistics knowledge
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
Knowledge of basic math
Skill in paying attention to detail, particularly in the manipulation and recording of numbers
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to compile and summarize information
Ability to handle several tasks at the same time and work well under pressure
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years experience in sorting, receiving, storing, loading and unloading of materials or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to communicate the English language.
Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently.
Ability to lift heavy (50-100 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
Ability to lift scales, hand trucks, and dollies
Ability to perform route mathematical calculations
Ability to occasionally lift boxes of materials, donations
Ability to load, unload, secure and protect goods
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Temperatures in the warehouse and dock area may, at times, be very cold, depending on the varying weather and temperatures during the season. Temperatures vary from approximately 30 degrees to below 0 in the winter. Position involves going in and out of the warehouse space into the cold throughout the day.
