Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs preventative maintenance tasks to clean, inspect, test, service, and replace consumable parts (filters, oils, belts, etc.) on water pumping and treatment equipment
• Uses mechanical hand tools to maintain and make repairs on a variety of electro/mechanical devices used at water treatment plants, pump stations, storage tanks, wells, and lift stations
• Follows preventative maintenance schedules for equipment maintenance and maintains records of maintenance performed
• Operates a variety of equipment used by plant maintenance staff, such as mowers, line trimmers, 4X4 truck with snow plow, hoists and cranes, welding equipment, electric grinders, saws, drills, and hand tools
• Assists with troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance on pumps, motors and other electro/mechanical equipment
• Assists with the calibrations of level and flow indicating meters and transmitters
• Assists with troubleshooting of electrical equipment and using various electrical and mechanical tools and instruments
• Assists with the testing, calibration and maintenance of standby generators
• Performs basic building repairs and maintenance, and assists with installing light fixtures, replacing lights, patching walls, repairing doors and locks, and repairing and installing plumbing lines and fixtures
• Assists with the maintenance and repairs of heating and cooling equipment for buildings and underground vaults
• Adheres to all safety policies regarding confined space entry, personal protective equipment, fall protection, chemical handling, electrical safety, etc.
• Maintains records, updates information, and implements procedures and forms for maintenance and safety evaluations of equipment. Performs work order task management: opens, updates, and completes work tasks using Cartegraph
• Researches and evaluates equipment, tools, and parts, and makes recommendations for equipment purchases, replacements, and repairs

• This position is part of the Town's snow removal program. Will have scheduled on-call responsibilities through the winter months to remove snow using a 4-wheel drive pickup and/or heavy equipment. Snow removal shifts are typically 12 hours

• This position will be required to participate in the plant maintenance On-Call standby rotation (after hours and weekend on-call)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required

Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Plant Mechanic I:

Qualifications generally include a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by two (2) years of previous mechanical repair experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience. A valid Colorado Driver’s License is required. Must complete 40 Hour HAZWOPER training (within 6 months). Required to participate in the Respiratory Protection Program and complete a medical respiratory physical and fit test. 

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of water treatment, wastewater treatment, water distribution, or wastewater collection experience, or mechanical maintenance experience, or formal technical training in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, construction, facilities, or vehicle maintenance. 

Plant Mechanic II:

Qualifications generally include a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by two (2) years of industrial equipment maintenance experience, which includes a working knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), hydraulics, plumbing, electrical, construction electrical, HVAC, construction, facilities maintenance, vehicle maintenance, industrial equipment troubleshooting, and electronics; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience. A Valid Colorado driver’s license required. Must complete 40 Hour HAZWOPER training (within six months). Required to participate in the Respiratory Protection Program and complete a medical respiratory physical and fit test. Must obtain a Class D Water Treatment Operator certification within 12 months of hire. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of water treatment, or wastewater treatment, or water distribution, or wastewater collection experience, or mechanical maintenance experience, or formal technical training in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, construction, facilities, or vehicle maintenance. Maintenance experience and training on advanced oxidation and UV disinfection water treatment equipment.

Plant Mechanic III:

Qualifications generally include a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by three (4) years of industrial equipment maintenance experience, which includes working knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), hydraulics, plumbing, electrical, construction electrical, HVAC, construction, facilities maintenance, vehicle maintenance, industrial equipment troubleshooting, and electronics; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must complete 40 Hour HAZWOPER training (within 6 months). Required to participate in the Respiratory Protection Program and complete a medical respiratory physical and fit test. Valid Colorado driver’s license required. Must obtain a Class D Water Treatment Operator certification within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four (4) years of water treatment, wastewater treatment, water distribution, or wastewater collection mechanical and maintenance experience, or two years of formal technical training in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, construction, facilities, or vehicle maintenance trades. Maintenance experience and training on advanced oxidation and UV disinfection water treatment equipment. Possession of Water Treatment D, Wastewater Treatment D, Water Distribution I or Wastewater Collections I State certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Possesses a basic understanding of plumbing, electrical installation and repairs, construction requirements, electro/mechanical troubleshooting, hydraulics, and basic electronic repairs
• Possesses skills operating a computer and using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Possesses ability to communicate effectively using email and phone communications
• Has knowledge of mechanical and electrical terminology
• Has the ability to operate various types of test equipment, hand tools, and power tools
• Has the ability to understand verbal information, explain complex technical information, document situations, and follow instructions
• Has the ability to read and understand written materials, including blueprints, proposals, etc.
• Has the ability to memorize situations, details, laws, regulations, procedures, policies, etc.
• Has mathematical skills in calculating formulas to conduct maintenance and repairs of process equipment

Physical Demands:

• Required to participate in the Respiratory Protection Program and complete a medical respiratory physical and fit test
• Moderate to heavy physical work to include lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of 50 - 100 pounds 
• Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, and/or twisting  
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools and electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles
• Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
• Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens

Work Environment: 

• Works both indoors and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions
• Regular exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals

Equipment Used: 

• Uses mechanical hand tools to maintain and make repairs on a variety of electro/mechanical devices used at water treatment plants, pump stations, storage tanks, wells, and lift stations
• This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
