Responsible for assisting more experienced welders with the entire sequence of cutting and welding operations for a wide variety of repair and fabrication work. Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products. May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks. A significant portion of this role is to learn the trade from more experienced coworkers.- Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
- Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
- Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter.
- Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
- Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
- The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
- The ability to lift 50 pounds with proper body mechanics.
- Ability to work within a teamwork environment with regular and predictable attendance.
- Keep materials area and other work areas clean and orderly and report potential hazards.
- Able to pass drug screen, physical and background check.
