Typical Job Functions
The Gym Monitor is responsible for supervising play, enforcing rules and court etiquette, promoting sportsmanship, and managing equipment.
- This job is primarily performed in an inside environment.
- Requires standing and walking for long periods.
- The incumbent is typically exposed to noises and interruptions, such as bouncing balls, sudden loud noises, multiple voices, and yelling in a crowded environment.
- Greet the public and provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions, and other general information over the phone and in person.
- The flow of work and character of duties involve typical mental and visual attention much or all the time.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required, making up more than 50% of the work period.
- Physical exertion may be lifting sporting equipment (volleyball nets, table tennis tables, etc.) and items weighing less than 40 pounds
- Light custodial duties required.
- This job is primarily performed outside, including excessive temperatures and inclement weather.
- This job assignment can be at an outdoor complex or BSD school gymnasium
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods
- The incumbent is typically exposed to noises and interruptions, such as bouncing balls, sudden loud noises, multiple voices, and yelling in a crowded environment.
- Physical exertion may be lifting sporting equipment weighing less than 40 pounds.
- Light custodial duties required.
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain.
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Staff are forbidden to participate in drop-in programs while on duty.
- Must successfully complete District safety training before beginning duties
Estimated schedule:
The Gym/Complex Monitor is typically scheduled for 3 – 29 hours per week. Part-time employees are scheduled for variable hours and locations, may include evenings and weekends, and work no more than 1,560 hours per year. Cross-training for various positions, such as front desk support, concessions, and program leader, is available.
