JOB SUMMARY: Functions as an integral member of the laboratory by proficiently performing duties associated with the laboratory by promptly and efficiently processing patients and requests for laboratory services. Performs tasks related to Laboratory Services and venipunctures as necessary and be able to determine age-appropriate care and specific needs. Accurately obtains patient demographic and medical insurance information. Performs duties under the direction of and in cooperation with the Pathologists and Laboratory Administrative Director. Ensures adherence to the Corporate Compliance Program. Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Office experience/training and completion of Phlebotomy Training Program with certification preferred.
Experience: Previous office/phlebotomy experience preferred but not required.
License/Registration: Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Other: Must prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency and standard of care; be effective and functional team player exhibiting loyalty and support for the laboratory. Professionalism, integrity, and effective interactions with customers is required. Must adhere to hospital and departmental policy regarding confidentiality of patient information. Excellent driving record as validated by North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles report (and applicable reports from states lived in during the last 7 years). Excellent customer service and communication skills required. Must be able to operate all types of motor vehicles - automatic and manual/standard transmission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform venipunctures, collection of Chain of Custody Urine Drug Screens, and clerical tasks (phone, fax, copier)
- Demonstrate appropriate interactions with patients/residents during setup and procedures, explains process.
- Responsible for proper collection and transportation of biological and anatomic pathology samples from facilities.
- Responsible for proper registration of patients -determining Contract Vs insurance billing.
- Liaison between Outreach accounts and Laboratory for customer service, communication, supplies and testing
- Maintains accurate filing system for Contract account orders.
- Scans laboratory orders into Canopy.
- Contacts facilities when discrepancies are identified regarding a specimen or lab order.
- Scans patient orders and insurance information into Encompass
- Assists Phlebotomy Supervisor with work queues in Encompass on an as needed basis.
- Enters phlebotomy charges for facility collects.
- Assists phlebotomy Supervisor in Contract billing on an as needed basis.
- Orders phlebotomy supplies in eMerald.
- Responsible for scheduling all laboratory vehicle routine maintenance, repairs, and inspection.
- Provides education on Encompass registration for lab teammates-onboarding and on as needed basis.
- Supports laboratory team to float to acute care and Outpatient draw areas in times of need.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires range of motion within functional limits. Frequent bending, stooping, stretching, kneeling/squatting. Frequent standing, walking. Occasional sitting. Functional vision and hearing. Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Lifting 35 pounds from 8” from floor to 53” (shoulder height).
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Requires working extended/irregular hours under stressful conditions. Some exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common in a hospital environment.
