What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Specialist - Dandekar Lab position at University of California, Davis?
This position will be at 100% FTE.
Laboratory Research (90%)
The candidate will be responsible for the research components of the translational and clinical projects in mucosal infections and host response with a specific emphasis on Coccidioidomycosis and other mucosal pathogens. Responsibilities will include research involving cell cultures, immunoassays including , immunodiffusion, EIA, and complement fixation testing, molecular assays including RNA/DNA extraction, clinical and research sample repository and maintenance. Activities may include working in a BSL 2 and/or BSL 3 laboratory under supervision. The candidate will record, analyze, and compile data as well as complete data uploads to appropriate Laboratory Information Systems.
The candidate will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and regulatory compliance, maintenance of lab safety protocols, preparation of media and other materials used for immunological and molecular assays, management of specimen inventory, data input and storage, and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
Professional Competence (5%)
The candidate will be expected to attend lab meetings and present new results to the laboratory peers and will contribute to scholarly articles by providing their research findings, data, and write-ups on the work performed and may participate in writing manuscript portions in relation to their research findings. The candidate will review scholarly literature to improve or learn about methods for the project that are needed for ongoing projects and will participate in local conferences and joint lab meetings.
Service (5%):
The candidate will also provide University/public service by providing mentor ship of undergraduate students, guiding them in laboratory safety and training in work and data analysis.
