Position description

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist. Responsibilities of this position will include planning, execution and presentation of research on human brain MRI and PET scans. A successful candidate will participate in lab activities, particularly around issues of image processing and data analysis. For example, the incumbent will perform quantitative cross sectional and longitudinal volumetric analysis on human brain MRI images using software developed in the laboratory. The applicant will also perform region specific volumetric brain analysis which will include the hippocampus and other regions of interest. This will be done in collaboration with the Lab PI, other faculty in the lab and other Junior Specialists. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills in communication and writing; as well as the ability to work independently or in a team.

Research (90% effort)
*Assist in planning, design and execution of experiments and scientific documentation and analysis of results
*Participate in lab meetings and discuss current/future projects with research faculty and staff
*Participate with research staff on peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, research reports and talk/poster presentations
*Provide support to research staff
*Enter data into on-line databases
*Organize study documents
*Attend teleconferences, study monitoring visits, audits, etc.

Professional Competence (5% effort)
The incumbent will be expected to produce contributions of a high academic caliber that will result in authorship on scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Stroke, Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, Neurobiology of Aging, etc.). Participate in bi-weekly meetings at the IDeA Lab and will be required to attend a monthly Clinical and Pathological conference via zoom. The candidate will also be required to attend to other talks given by faculty, both on and off campus throughout the year, which will discuss current and ongoing research projects.

University and Public Service (5% effort)
The Junior Specialist will be expected to provide mentorship to undergraduate research assistants that rotate through the lab. This includes undergraduate students coming from the Advancing Diversity in Aging Research (ADAR) and other such programs.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

The incumbent must have a Bachelor's Degree with a major in neurobiology, biological sciences or a related field. In addition to a strong background in neurobiology and science, the incumbent will be expected to have experience working in a research laboratory. Demonstrated ability to work independently, taking initiative, making critical decisions and communication of ideas. Ability to work full-time.
