Job Description
Assistant/Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology
The University of Connecticut School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics at UCONN Health and Jackson Laboratories, in collaboration with CT Children's, is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor research scientist for the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Gene Therapy with joint appointments at Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at UCONN Health.
Department of Pediatrics faculty members perform state of the art clinical services at Connecticut Children's, the only free-standing Children's Hospital between Boston and Philadelphia, and its expansive clinical network in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. The Department's clinical and translational research facilities span work across our various campuses, including Connecticut Children's, UCONN Health and Jackson Laboratories.
This role is a unique opportunity because in addition to having an appointment at UCONN Health the candidate will have an appointment at The Jackson Laboratory, one of the country's top independent non-profit, biomedical research institutions whose mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. Strong candidates for this role will have wet or dry lab experience and be focused on Thrombosis and Coagulation Disorders, with hemophilia expertise preferred. Other areas in hematology/oncology are acceptable, including bone marrow disorders, hematopoietic cell development and hematologic malignancies.
This position requires a physician scientist with exceptional research skill, leadership, flexibility, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to handle the scientific responsibilities of working in a research-based institution while building their own wet lab or dry lab if the focus is on bioinformatics. This individual should have commitment to maintaining and supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment, strong people skills with an ability to mentor and train junior faculty and students. A strong sense of community and a collaborative approach to science would also be important to possess. This position requires an MD or MD/Ph.D. and relevant postdoctoral experience. Faculty members are expected to establish and maintain nationally competitive, externally funded research programs and to participate in professional and graduate teaching. Applicants should have established or demonstrated promise for independent research that broadly fits within the department scope of bleeding disorders, including hemophilia and red cell genetics.
