Position Summary:
The Raven Scholars Program provides a supported transition for University of Idaho students on the autism spectrum. The program supports college success by providing weekly planning meetings, peer mentoring, coordination of campus services and opportunities to improve social, academic and life skills. Participants are admitted to the program on a first-come, first-serve basis for this donation-based program.

The Support Specialist provides one-on-one support to individuals enrolled in the program to improve academic and social skills, in addition to assisting the Program Coordinator in managing general office responsibilities. The Support Specialist is responsible for learning about and educating Raven Scholars students about campus resources including the Center for Disability Access and Resources, Student Support Services, Tutoring, Counseling and Testing Center, and other campus services.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelors degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, sociology, medical, adult, organizational leadership and learning, human development and family studies, communication, or family and consumer science.





  • Two years experience in academic or social skills support at the post-secondary level or a field working with students;
  • Experience presenting to small and large groups;
  • Using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through;
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality;
  • Experience with computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet searches, and data organization.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in social work, special education, vocational rehabilitation counseling, and counseling;
  • Experience with disability laws (Sec. 504, ADA, ADAAA) and appropriate services/accommodations for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level;
  • Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills; experience writing concise reports;
  • Experience analyzing problems, identifying solutions, and taking action, resolving problems independently;
  • Experience using professional judgment, solving problems and making decisions;
  • Experience interpreting, applying and explaining laws;
  • Ability to teach learning strategies to students with disabilities and mental health issues, particularly related to executive functioning disorders;
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task;
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
