Job DescriptionSENIOR COST ESTIMATORThe Senior Cost Estimator is responsible for overseeing the preparation of budgets, estimates, and pre-bid packages for construction projects. This role includes leading preconstruction efforts, coordinating with internal project teams, preparing quantity takeoffs, reviewing plans and specifications for constructability, and supporting value engineering initiatives across all CSI (Construction Specification Institute) divisions. The Senior Cost Estimator is accountable for the accuracy and completeness of all estimating work under their supervision.Essential FunctionsOversees the preparation and presentation of project budgets and estimatesBuilds and maintains effective working relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultantsPerforms accurate, thorough, and timely quantity takeoffs using established company formats, coding, and procedures for all CSI divisions and all design phases (schematic, design development, construction documents)Develops clear and concise assumptions and clarifications in coordination with project management teamsManages multiple projects concurrently and prioritizes workload effectivelyReviews drawings and specifications and obtains necessary clarifications from design professionalsAssists in soliciting, reviewing, and analyzing subcontractor and vendor pricing when requiredAttends pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid interviews as neededEnsures development and validation of accurate unit costsDevelops and evaluates value management and cost-saving alternativesPerforms technical and constructability reviews of project documentsIdentifies potential issues and develops appropriate solutionsExpands knowledge of building systems, construction materials, and methodologies to support project feasibilityPlans and manages estimating workloads efficientlyJob RequirementsBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience10 years of preconstruction and/or construction operations experience, or5-10 years of progressive equivalent experience depending on project size and complexityWorking knowledge of some or all of the following systems:Civil and site constructionFoundations and structural systemsExterior wall systemsInterior finishesMechanical and electrical systemsStrong understanding of exterior envelope systems and interior finish constructionExperience with large-scale infrastructure or complex construction projects preferredExposure to track work, stations, tunnels, airports, utility relocations, and structural systems preferredDemonstrated knowledge of construction details related to miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, radiation protection, and other tradesStrong organizational, leadership, and personnel management skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to lead and coordinate project teams collaborativelyAbility to learn new systems, tools, and processes quicklyResourceful, adaptable, and solution-orientedCapable of estimating all aspects of a commercial construction project and assembling a complete project budgetAbility to work independently and manage full estimating efforts when requiredStrong computer proficiency, including estimating software (e.g., MC2), spreadsheets, word processing, bid management platforms, online plan rooms, databases, and Microsoft Office toolsCompany DescriptionW3Global was established in 2006 in Fremont, CA with a vision: simplify the recruiting process and develop an industry-disrupting platform to connect candidates with clients.
