Maintenance Mechanic 2 in the Electrical Shop

We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team working in the electric shop at Western State Hospital .

Work schedule: 7.30am – 3:30pm Monday - Friday

You'll work independently, utilize your knowledge of several related fields, and perform a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities and equipment, hospital facilities, systems, and equipment.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some Of What You’ll Do

  • Provide support to our Electricians in the electrical shop
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (e.g., oil changes, lubrication, fix flats, fan belt replacement).
  • Repair and maintain shop equipment, vehicles, and construction equipment.
  • Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, and painted surfaces and install and maintain electrical connections, switches, circuits, and thermostats.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on electrical systems, including electrical drive motors and other equipment.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems, including air-conditioning equipment, motors, shafts, bearings, and drive belts.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical systems such as laundry, kitchen, and hospital laboratory equipment.
  • Repair structural components of buildings and perform remodels and construction work in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor safety equipment and fire protection systems and maintain environmental control equipment.
  • Perform skilled work in painting, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Operate vehicles to pick up and deliver parts, supplies, and commissary orders.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Work from verbal descriptions, plans, sketches, or drawings.
  • Estimate materials needed for job completion.

Who Should Apply

Those with a high school diploma and four years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade

Preferred Qualifications

  • Washington State electrician license
  • Previous electrical experience is desired
  • Knowledge and experience in several trades at a journey level
  • Ability to show patience and respect to those with behavioral health issues
