Job Title: Employment Navigator

Reports To: Workforce Development Manager

Work Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm

FLSA Status: Exempt

Dates Updated: 1/14/2021

Salary: Starting at $35,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

SUMMARY:

The Employment Navigator will work as a part of an integrated team that helps each client achieve mutually agreed upon goals. The Workforce Development team regularly discusses each client’s progress through all phases of the program with input from every staff member in order to determine future steps. This position will help clients adjust to their changing economic status by guiding them to resources that can assist them in eliminating barriers while accessing services in the EOP. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Case Management

➢ Performs intake; assesses strengths, needs, and support networks to help construct individualized service plans and accompanying goals.

➢ Conducts benefits analysis with clients to ensure proper access to entitlements.

➢ Makes regular contact with existing and new clients to encourage participation in the program.

➢ Uses appropriate, client-centered disclosure practices when sharing personal and professional experiences and networks.

➢ Completes client discharge summaries and implements aftercare plan.

➢ Assists with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals.

Community Engagement

➢ Works with the Workforce Development team to establish a network of referral partners capable of assisting clients with wrap-around support services.

➢ Participates in various collaborative organizational activities for the dual purpose of fostering strong working relationships with other agencies and building the number of active clients.

➢ Assists the Manager in the development and execution of informative presentations to the community.

➢ Educates, connects, and ensures consistent engagement between clients and appropriate community wrap-around support services.

➢ Assist the manager with the mentoring/partnering program.

Client Readiness

➢ Guides clients in improving job seeking and job retention skills.

➢ Provides clients with on-going individual career counseling and employment preparation coaching.

➢ Provides monthly and quarterly follow-up services to both employed and unemployed alumni for one year after program exit.

➢ Assists participants in career preparation by identifying career and vocational choices to build a realistic employability plan to achieve objectives.

➢ Provides assistance with creating resumes, thank you letters, cover letters, and business cards.

➢ Encourages the free exchange of information in a comfortable and safe environment with no fear of judgment, criticism, or breach of confidentiality.

➢ Assists clients in the development of work-related intangible skills such as problem solving and assertiveness leading to the development of self-esteem and self-confidence.

➢ Assists with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals.

Data, Tracking, and Quality

➢ Performs follow-ups with clients and documents outcomes.

➢ Consults with the Workforce Development Manager regarding expectations, challenges, and process improvements.

➢ Analyzes client feedback and develops strategies to increase client recruitment and retention.

➢ Tracks goals, progress, and accomplishments to be shared with the Workforce
Development Manager; pulls reports, creates lists of clients’ program participation.

➢ Adheres to all guidelines related to confidentiality and quality-control requirements.

➢ Database management; inputs case and service, as well as uploads of all necessary documents to clients’ files, notes on each client; client management.

➢ Completes the forms (participant roster) and oversee the completion of the employability plans for Cuyahoga Count’s SNAP E&T plans.

➢ Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS degree in addition to 1 year of experience in social services, business, or related field
  • Understanding of social work theories and methodologies; ability to use creativity and enthusiasm to motivate adults to reach their goals
  • High level of proficiency with Internet applications and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to accept and work with people of diverse backgrounds; demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice; ability to set and uphold personal and professional boundaries
  • Understanding and supportive of a trauma-informed system of care
  • Excellent organizational skills and punctuality to scheduled meetings with staff, clients, and external organizations
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; strong leadership and presentation skills
  • Belief in the mission of the West Side Catholic Center along with a desire to give back to the community by fostering the growth of others
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours and days to meet project needs
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate specifically with an audience from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Bilingual in Spanish (strongly preferred but not required)

JOB CONDITIONS
This position requires the employee to work with a diverse population, therefore, there may be exposure to potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance.

  • Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor large space and identify concerns that require staff response.
  • Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms.
  • Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
  • Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift, move and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.
