Brooklyn Aids Task Force was the very first HIV/AIDS organization in Brooklyn to prioritize serving persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) since 1986. Today, BAC provides mental health and substance use-related social services, comprehensive HIV/AIDS care, and coordinated health care and supportive services to under-served racial and ethnic minority communities in Brooklyn and other parts of New York City.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Healthcare Compliance Coordinator will oversee the agency-wide compliance with laws, regulations, and industry standards. This role focuses on supporting HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Confidentiality operations, including investigations, training, audits, and workplan activities.

The Healthcare Compliance Coordinator responsibilities includes but not limited to developing and implementing compliance policies, conducting audits and risk assessments, and providing staff training. The coordinator will also review charts, monitor program quality, and ensure alignment with regulatory standards. Reporting to the Director of Healthcare Informatics, this position ensures all policies are up-to-date and compliant, while managing internal audits to maintain operational integrity.

Amount of travel and any other special conditions: Hybrid – May be able to work remotely based on a remote work arrangement.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION:

  • MINIMUM: Bachelors is acceptable providing candidate has up to 5 years’ experience in field
  • Master’s degree in public health, Healthcare Informatics, Health Administration, Business Administration, Social Work or other relevant discipline.
  • MINIMUM: Three (3) years in Healthcare Compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy and Procedures Development

  • Assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the creation and revision of agency-wide policies and procedures to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Support the process of updating policies, procedures, and guidance, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Ensure final documents are stored in the designated electronic database.

Audits and Compliance Monitoring

  • Conduct OMIG self-audits and audits within the compliance audit work plan, including chart audits, billing audits, and random spot audits.
  • Assess the accuracy of CPT codes, diagnoses, modifier assignments, and service documentation.
  • Assist in internal audits relating to Human Resources, Operations, and other administrative functions.
  • Monitor and identify patterns, trends, and variances during audits.
  • Assist in the development and modification of audit tools based on changing regulations.
  • Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective action.
  • Monitor and manage the completion of corrective action plans.
  • Track and monitor completion of vendor and employee compliance and HIPAA attestations.

HIPAA and Privacy Compliance

  • Assist in conducting HIPAA privacy and security investigations and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Track incidents and breaches involving unsecured Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Conduct chart audits for consents and disclosures.
  • Support the completion of risk assessments for impermissible access, use, and disclosures involving PHI for breach determination.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, including PHI, as required by HIPAA and agency policy.
  • Support the annual Privacy and Security Risk Assessment and complete the annual OMIG compliance program assessment process.

Compliance Committees and Training

  • Actively participate in compliance committees, subcommittees, and workgroups as a Co-Chair or Member.
  • Assist with the development of education and training materials.
  • Provide education and training to staff on compliance matters, including Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Confidentiality.
  • Identify risk areas and update the agency’s risk management log.
  • Seek ongoing training and development to enhance expertise in compliance and privacy programs.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual reports.
  • Monitor and update compliance metrics and dashboards periodically.
  • Utilization Review (UR)
  • Assist in completing timely utilization reviews of client documentation for medical necessity, admission, continuing stay, and discharge reasons.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in special projects based on agency needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Word) required.
  • Experience performing audits and developing corrective action plans.
  • Ability to work independently, possess strong communication, analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize critical items.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
