Job Description
Evening Custodial Supervisor (part-time 28 hours/week)
The PT Evening Custodial Supervisor plays a hands-on leadership role, directly responsible for maintaining cleanliness in their assigned building and supporting related events. They actively mentor their team of student workers by working alongside them, demonstrating a strong work ethic, and promoting a positive team culture. Daily responsibilities include cleaning, inspecting work quality, providing feedback, and fostering a respectful, productive environment.
This role requires a commitment to upholding all university policies regarding training, safety, and conduct. The supervisor is expected to model excellent customer service and embody the values of university citizenship in all interactions.
Under the guidance of the Area Manager and Building Managers, they also contribute to department-wide initiatives and play a key role in shaping a supportive and efficient custodial program.
Scheduled Weekly Shift: 4:00pm-9:30pm Monday-Friday

What You’ll Do In This Position
- Supervise and participate in the daily cleaning of assigned areas, ensuring high standards are met using approved methods
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of part-time student custodians, promoting a strong work ethic and service-minded attitude
- Onboard and coach new student workers, providing hands-on guidance and ongoing performance feedback
- Responsible for training and overseeing work for the area’s weekend student
- Maintain safety by ensuring proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, and by reinforcing safety procedures with team members
- Manage team schedules, timekeeping, and HR tasks such as hiring, performance reviews, and corrective actions
- Coordinate with campus departments for special cleaning projects and event support; maintain positive relationships with building occupants
- Conduct daily building inspections to assess work quality and gather feedback from building users
- Maintain accurate records related to inventory, equipment, staffing, and training; support department goals and attend required meetings and trainings

Physical Effort
- Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions. (Elaborate below)
- Periodic exposure to unfavorable conditions because of unavoidable need to be in variable temperatures or wet environments, etc.
- Frequent existing or potential hazards (Elaborate below)
- Cleaning restrooms, vacuuming, running floor machines, buffers and genie lift while wearing gloves and non-slip shoes to protect against hot surfaces and slips
- Moving offices and other furniture for cleaning purposes while wearing close-toed shoes and gloves for foot and hand protection
- Working outside in the winter, shoveling snow while wearing gloves and boots
- Work with cleaning chemicals only while wearing gloves, goggles, and protective clothing, and following all safety guidelines
- High school diploma or GED Equivalent
- 1 year building care or a similar industry experience
- 1-year supervisory experience
