What are the responsibilities and job description for the Code Enforcement Officer position at City of Irving?
Duties include investigating citizen complaints and inspecting residential and commercial properties for code and zoning violations; issuing notices of violation and citations; serving administrative and seizure warrants to property owners; documenting and maintaining records of all enforcement activities; contacting property owners to assist with code interpretation and negotiating solutions for compliance; filing court cases and providing expert court testimony regarding city codes and violations; working with City Attorney’s Office staff on cases for elevated legal process; and responding by phone or email to citizen questions and complaints. A high school diploma, or equivalent; two years of experience in enforcement, property management or a closely related field; and a valid Class C Texas driver’s license required. State of Texas Code Enforcement License required or the ability to obtain within 12 months from hire date. Other industry certifications: some college preferred. Must be able to interpret city ordinances and codes, and possess good communication and presentation skills. Bilingual (English and Spanish) skills beneficial. Normal schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend work.

- Individuals hired into this position will receive $1000 after their first 30 days of employment provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
- Employees that successfully complete their 6-month orientation period will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000 provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
- Employees that successfully complete one year of employment without
documented attendance or disciplinary issues will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000. - The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $3,000.
