What are the responsibilities and job description for the CREW LEADER (CEMETERY) position at CITY OF KILLEEN?
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Crew Leader at the Veterans Cemetery may supervise a crew of two employees in the upkeep of the Veterans Cemetery.
Supervises on-site daily activities of workers, responsible for all aspects of the Veterans Cemetery maintenance.
Realigns and sets headstones, markers, and niche covers in the Veterans Cemetery to meet the National Cemetery Association guidelines.
Works closely with supervisor to ensure that all proper safety and guidelines are followed.
Operates a variety of maintenance equipment used in the Veterans Cemetery as required; conducts safety and maintenance checks of equipment and ensures crews utilize proper protective equipment.
Maintains current skills and knowledge in proper and safe techniques of building and ground maintenance functions.
Able to drive and take care of all-terrain vehicles used on the cemetery grounds.
Mows, weed-eats and cleans all areas of the cemetery grounds.
Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs all structures on cemetery grounds.
Assists in special events held on the Veterans Cemetery grounds year-round.
Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds and picks up litter from premises, to include the inner and outer boundaries of the fence line of the Veterans Cemetery.
Assist general public with locating graves or cleaning grave sites.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduation from high school or equivalent, and
2. One year of related supervisory experience
3. A Veteran of any branch of military service; preferred but not required.
1. Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in the Veterans Cemetery.
2. Ability to operate and maintain various equipment used in Veterans Cemetery.
3. Able to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse weather conditions.
4. Use all equipment and tools safely and properly.
5. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position requires heavy physical effort with reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate the different sets of controls while operating the equipment and attachments.
The employee may be subjected to considerable strain caused by vibration, jerking, and jolting of the equipment over rough surfaces and the need to operate controls in awkward positions.
Heavy effort is frequently exercised when performing duties such as tamping, carrying caskets/urns, lifting/moving grave planks, setting headstones, markers, niche covers, etc.
The employee is frequently required to stand and must be able to walk on hilly, flat, or rolling terrain. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear.
This position requires the employee to frequently lift and/or move weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move items weighing more than 100 pounds with assistance from co-workers.
Employees may be exposed to noise levels exceeding 85 dBA for up to eight (8) hours per day. This exposure may adversely affect hearing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
