- Experience with NextGen preferred but not required
- Responsible for the quality of nursing care rendered to patients
- Assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, directing, supervising, evaluating direct and indirect nursing care, and identifying outcomes for patients in the gastroenterology setting
- Responsible for determining the education and competency level of assistive personnel to whom they are delegating
- The specific patient populations to whom direct care is provided include adults or adolescents with gastrointestinal disorders/diseases
- Systematically assessing the health status of individuals and record related health data
- Establishing nursing diagnosis
- Planning health education and pre-, intra-, and post- procedure education to patients and significant others
- Administering and evaluating pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens mandated by the particular situation, evidence-based practice, and recent advancements in gastroenterology
- Evaluating outcomes of nursing intervention and initiating change when appropriate
- Making ethical and moral decisions surrounding patient care
- Acting sensitively with consideration to the diversity of the patient or group
- Assisting the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration
- Responding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient’s health status
- Performing diagnostic studies as ordered by the physician
- Documenting patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient care
- Assisting in the management of follow up care
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality and continuity of care
- Serving as a patient advocate within the limits of the law
- Acting as a resource for other
- Serving as a mentor for other nurses
- Participating in continuing education and achieving and maintaining certification
- Participating in the data collection for research using evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes
- Monitoring performance by developing and participating in performance improvement activities Triage patients via phone and in-person Manage voicemails Schedule new patient consults, office visits, or emergency patients based on patient needs Monitor inbox including calling patients with results of their procedure biopsies, giving patients responses from the MDs Ensure proper recalls are entered Update results from radiology and all pathology in order management Check patient portal message and respond Perform specialty procedures such as HBT, infusions, manometry, BRAVO teaching, injections, occasional nurse visits, and capsules Patient education: medication disease pathology, lifestyle modification Prior authorizations including contracting drug representatives if necessary Complete benefits investigation forms to start patients with new medications Medication refills Complete insurance, disability, VA, FMLA paperwork, and present to physician Fax records when needed Supply inventory and ordering Stamp and send all outgoing nursing mail Maintain current certifications Maintain CEU’s Other tasks and duties deemed necessary at the discretion of the physicians and management
