What are the responsibilities and job description for the Conservation Enforcement Officer position at Fond du Lac Reservation?
- Responsibilities: Conducts investigations of all alleged violations of Federal, State, Tribal and Band Conservation Codes to include a record of cases processed, submission of a daily activity report; filling out daily vehicle log; and appearing in court cases in which summoned.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
Works with and helps train any new trainee conservation officers.
Maintains quarterly inventory of all equipment.
Works with State and Federal conservation offices when required
Work on routine patrol in order to respond to calls for assistance or reported violations.
Must be available to assist in emergency situations.
Carries out all duties and responsibilities as directed by the Chief Conservation Officer and Conservation Officer Supervisor
Department Uniform is required and provided to the employee, which must be worn during scheduled work hours unless prior arrangements have been made with management.
Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
Ensures confidentiality of all financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Qualifications: Valid Driver’s License issued in the US is required.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including work in adverse weather conditions is required.
Eligibility determined by FDL’s insurance company.
High school graduate or GED is required
Ability to be certified by the United States Indian Police Academy, Basic Police Training Program and/or have the status of “eligible to be licensed” as defined by the Minnesota P.O.S.T. Board is required.
Ability to learn Federal, State, and Fond du Lac Band Conservation Codes is required.
Successful background check and firearms licensures are required, if not licensed at the time of hire must obtain firearms licensures within 1 year of hire. Employment is contingent upon this requirement and semi-annually qualifications for firearms must be completed and maintained.
Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, databases and/or data entry, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook is required
Knowledge of investigation procedures is required.
Knowledge of report writing is required.
Knowledge of inventory systems is desired.
Knowledge of Native American clients, communities, culture, customs and beliefs is preferred.
Experience working with Native American clients, communities and can demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.
Position requires on-call availability.
Operations are conducted seven days a week; 24 hours a day; and on holidays.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
Travel is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required.
Walking and running over uneven terrain, standing, running, bending stooping, climbing, pushing and pulling for long periods of time is required.
Risks include snake or insect bites and stings.
