What are the responsibilities and job description for the OOG Language Nest Coordinator position at Fond du Lac Reservation?
General Summary:
The OOG Language Academy sponsors a Language Nest called Grandma’s House that provides immersion experiences with elders and staff for infants, toddlers and their parents. The Ojibwe Language Nest Coordinator will provide Ojibwe Immersion program services during Nest Programming hours and manage daily programming for toddles aged 3 to 5 years old.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assists with day-to-day operations at nest programming.
- Be onsite at Grandma’s House during programming hours.
- Assist with creating, managing and teaching daily programming in an Ojibwe immersion setting.
- Attend all required workshops.
- Help shape Ojibwe language teaching in an immersion atmosphere.
- Assists with language curriculum aids such as appropriate literature, videos and first-language speaker visits.
- Assists with language development resource for Parents, Interns and Children from birth to 5 years.
- Obtain vendors and work with other partners to facilitate nest projects.
- Assist with grant reporting and maintain budgets in accordance with approved program expenditures.
- Coordinate elder travel, field trips, intern travel, and family days.
- Works with Grants Manager with the ordering and purchase of needed supplies and equipment for the program.
- Communicate with FDL facilities management and FDL IT as needed.
- Organize language learning opportunities for Parents, Intern, and Children.
- Ensure that all staff, parents and visitors meet background requirements.
- Completes first aid and CPR training.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all request, complaints, and problems.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree is preferred OR ongoing progress towards a relevant degree with an extensive educational background in the areas of Ojibwe language/culture & Early Childhood/Elementary Education.
- Experience working in Ojibwe language immersion environments is required.
- Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel and Microsoft Outlook is required.
- Proficient knowledge of hearing, speaking, reading and writing Ojibwe double-vowel system is required.
- Knowledge about native language preservation and revitalization preferred.
- Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs required.
- Demonstrated experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and writing is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
- Ability to develop professional harmonious working relationships.
