The Cafe Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that the Opportunity Coffee and Cafe operates to the highest standards, shaping a unique Cafe Experience. As the Cafe Manager, you will collaborate closely with a dedicated team to provide exceptional customer service while crafting expertly made experiences that embody love, grace, dignity, and respect. Additional duties, including but not limited to the following:
General Activities
- Oversee daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, maintaining a clean and organized space at all times, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
- Responsible for training, managing inventory, ordering, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment
- Work collaboratively with internal GRM teams, culinary staff, volunteers, and guests to ensure alignment with GRM’s and Opportunity Coffee & Cafe's goals
- Working in conjunction with Work Force Development to train interns
- Ensures equipment is clean, sanitized, and operable at all times to execute GRM’s standards
- Assist with all training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed
- Meet cafe operating policies and standards, including providing quality beverages and food products in a safe, clean, and comfortable atmosphere
- Act with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promote the culture, values, and mission of both GRM and Opportunity Coffee & Cafe
- Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally and effectively
- Communicate with the, Hospitality & Events Manager regarding cafe performance
- Scheduling shifts, time-off, and coverage for self and staff, with oversight from the Hospitality & Events Manager
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and orderly kitchen, serving area, and overall work environment
- Provide excellent customer service, address complaints, and ensure customer satisfaction
- Managing budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring financial performance
- Uphold and maintain Gospel Rescue Mission’s Standard of Excellence and culture
- Complete all required food and safety logs in a timely and efficient manner
- Communicates job and performance expectations to staff
- In conjunction with the Hospitality & Events Manager, maintain good standing on licenses and permits, and maintain health department compliance
- Obtain and maintain ServSafe and or State Food Handler Certification
- Record and report outcomes of GRM Coffee & Cafe's efforts as outlined in the department playbook
- Conduct regular team meetings and coaching conversations
- All other related duties as assigned
- Ability to direct the work of others
- Knowledgeable and proficient in each position within the Opportunity Coffee Cafe
- A strong understanding of coffee preparation, service, and potentially even bean sourcing and roasting
- Knowledge of food preparation, storage, sanitation, and commercial kitchen equipment
- Understanding how to create a great customer service experience
- Effective oral communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the retail environment.
- Familiarity with cafe operations, including inventory management, cash handling, and point-of-sale systems
- Customer Focus – Consistently going above and beyond to meet customer needs and resolve issues promptly and effectively
- Loyalty & Retention – Building strong relationships with customers and community members
- Staff motivation – Inspire team members by sharing the success of customer-centric tactics
- Satisfy all pieces of training as assigned by the director of workforce development (onboarding, basic training, OPPD, etc.)
- Attend staff meetings as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or 2 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a cafe or similar food and beverage environment
- Barista experience and experience with cafe operations preferred
- ServSafe certification preferred; Arizona Food Handler Card required
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and POS systems
- Proficient and meticulous attention to detail, active listener, and problem solver
- Maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License and have a clean driving record
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
- Must be Christian, living a life dedicated to Christ, and be an instrument of God’s love, grace, hope, and forgiveness to all
- The majority of the shift will be spent on feet in a fast-paced environment and close proximity to other people
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds
