We are a mission-driven Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic located in Decatur, Illinois who is dedicated to improving mental health and substance use care to individuals in a multi-county area. Overview: School Based Mental Health Professional

10- and 12-month positions available

Heritage has positions available (10 or 12 month employment options) in our Youth and Family Support Services to provide counseling and supports to children and adolescents (ages 0-17) and their families primarily within the school setting. These services include therapy, crisis intervention, outreach and engagement, assessment, family support and case management.


Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides direct and indirect clinical services (e.g., individual and family support, mentoring, advocacy, and community referrals) for children and adolescents (ages 0-17).
  • Providing clinical services including assessment, treatment planning, linking consumers to appropriate services, advocating on their behalf, providing support, client-centered consultations, doing community- based outreach, monitoring effectiveness of treatment and providing de-escalation skills as needed.
  • Collaborating with school faculty and administrative staff when referrals are given, security appropriate releases of information to support ongoing communication, and establishing trusting relationships with caregivers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with individuals with a mental health and/or substance use diagnosis;
  • Ability to meet people where they are at in their recovery, non-judgmental, and ability to build rapport quickly;
  • Ability to work as a team player;
  • Ability to tolerate ambiguity, uncertainty, and change;
  • Ability to navigate electronic health records;
  • Ability to respond to supervisors, person served, and other clinical staff providing services to the person served.
  • Candidates should be energetic and internally driven to assist youth to succeed in obtaining their desired outcomes
  • Organized and able to develop a program plan with goals, objectives, and timeframes that are consistently met
  • Knowledge of community resources and/or how to find
  • Previous experience working with youth is highly recommended
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Education and Experience:

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a human services field (psychology, social work, juvenile justice, human services) or have a high school diploma (or equivalent) plus five years of documented experience working in a social service setting; Master's degree and the ability to function as a Qualified Mental Health Professional preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with lived experienced navigating community systems or have experienced personal mental health or substance use recovery.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of automobile insurance are required

Salary Range: $47,840-$56,160 per year (dependent on education and experience)
