Job Summary:

The HVAC & general mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining the comfort and safety of our campus community. Key responsibilities include the maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems, assisting the Director of the Physical Plant with day-to-day operations, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• 3-5 years' experience in a large-scale facility
• Proficiency in HVAC and Refrigeration with proper certifications
• Experience with V.F.D.s; V.A.V. and integrated energy management systems

Preferred Qualifications:

• HVAC license

Work Hours:

40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with some evenings and weekends required

Essential Job Functions:

• Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment, including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, boilers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes, following manufacturer recommendations
• Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, equipment, and make necessary repairs to evaporative coolers
• Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic louvers, relays, filters, BAS controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves, etc.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and maintain safe working conditions
• Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC equipment, connect motors to control panels
• Safely operate all equipment and work assignments
• Comply with campus policies and procedures
