LHH is seeking a Controller for a client in the restaurant industry located in Dallas, TX. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the consolidated books, overseeing accounting operations, and guiding a small support team. The organization operates 16 restaurants and leverages various systems to manage sales data, payroll, and financial reporting. This role is based onsite and offers a strong degree of flexibility in daily scheduling.
In addition to having a strong accounting background with 10–15 years of experience, the ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership skills and the ability to negotiate with vendors. A CPA and MS Access experience are preferred but not required, however, candidates with one or the other will still be highly considered. Familiarity with Sage 50, SQL, and Excel is important, and restaurant or retail experience is a plus. Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the monthly close process for consolidated financials, ensuring a 4-day timeline is met.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of AP, payroll, and IT team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Prepare and review internal and external financial statements with detailed analysis and reconciliations.
- Use MS Access, SQL, and Excel to manage, manipulate, and import data into Sage 50 accounting software.
- Partner with the external CPA firm on annual reviews, audits, and tax filings.
- Manage vendor relationships, including negotiation of pricing and resolution of invoice discrepancies.
- Oversee payroll tax filings, sales tax reporting, and property tax renditions.
- Support annual evaluation and implementation of the employee medical benefits plan.
Client Requirements
- 10 to 15 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including leadership responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA is preferred but not mandatory.
- Hands-on experience with MS Access and/or SQL for data management and reporting.
- Strong Excel skills including advanced formulas and data manipulation techniques.
- Familiarity with Sage 50 (Peachtree) or similar accounting systems.
- Experience in restaurant or retail accounting is a plus, but not required.
