Description

Based in Portland, Maine, and offering services statewide, Preble Street’s low-barrier, client-centered programs provide casework, housing, shelter, food, and other essential services to people in our community experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty, while advocating for long-term solutions to these problems. Preble Street’s Development Department advances and extends the reach of the agency mission through fundraising, grant writing, donor and community relations, and communications.

 

Preble Street is seeking an experienced and driven Philanthropy Officer to secure essential private funding for the advancement of the agency’s core mission. Reporting to the Development Director, this role will collaborate with a dynamic Development team as well as senior staff members on fundraising efforts through the strategic identification and relationship-based cultivation and solicitation of donors. The Philanthropy Officer will act as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of prospects and donors with the capacity to give at a major level.

 

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with a Monday – Friday schedule, with most work to be performed during core business hours. Remote work is available up to 16 hours per week.

Qualifications


The desired combination of education and relevant experience for this position includes a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of successful experience in nonprofit fundraising with a specific focus on major gifts; however, candidates with any combination of experience and education likely to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in the position will be considered.

 

Further qualifications include an understanding of homelessness and poverty and a commitment to the agency mission; deep professional experience in nonprofit fundraising and a proven track record in securing major gifts; ability to build strong relationships with donors and stakeholders; excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently to establish priorities; ability to work collaboratively and to promote team productivity;  and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, donor management software (preferably Raiser’s Edge NXT), and cloud-based file sharing.

 

This position includes frequent statewide travel. Reliable transportation is required, with mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use.

 

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position with a salary of $80,000- $85,000, annualized. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:

  • 4 weeks/160 hours (accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 4 Days/32 Hours personal Time, 12 paid holidays
  • Health insurance w/ 100% employer-paid option; Dental insurance w/ 100% employer-paid option; Vision insurance; Employer-paid Life, STD, and LTD insurance
  • 403(b) retirement plan w/ employer match
