What are the responsibilities and job description for the EVV Direct Support Professional position at Renewed Vision Counseling?
The EVV DSP works in a home-based intervention program (in the client's home) supporting adults with developmental disabilities and their families. The primary role is to provide training and assistance that promotes independence in those adults while empowering their family to encourage and sustain that independence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support and companionship in the client's home in an empathetic, professional and objective manner that offers relief to family or primary caregivers as appropriate.
- Assist as appropriate with the delivery of activities of daily living to enhance their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
- Assist as appropriate with eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene. May include lifting and transferring clients. Knowledge of safe transfer/lift techniques and equipment preferred.
- Take vital signs and document findings, as needed. Observe client conditions, identifying potential risk factors for client wellness and safety and communicating them to the supervisor/nurse/care team.
- Coordinate referrals to services and related agencies to meet the needs identified in the care plan. Assist with identifying and establishing natural and professional support in the community.
- Complete accurate, comprehensive and timely documentation regarding visits and observed incidents.
- Participate in staff meetings and training as scheduled.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school graduate or equivalent. Achieve competency in required knowledge, skills, and abilities (training provided).
- Able to pass criminal and abuse registry background checks.
- Have a satisfactory driving record and current valid auto insurance.
- Hours include evening and weekend hours, flexible availability preferred.
- Experience with medical equipment (lifts, wheelchairs, hospital beds, gait belts, etc.) preferred
Disclosures:
- Work may include driving the individual to community activities.
- Work may require moderately heavy physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis.
- Work may include assisting with transfers (wheelchair to chair, bed, or tub, for example), and significant physical support to assist the client with daily activities.
- The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds or more depending on individual specific needs.
