What are the responsibilities and job description for the TITLE III PROGRAM ADVISING SERVICES MANAGER position at State of Louisiana?

Northwestern State University invites applications for the position of Advising Services Manager for its Title III' Elevate U' grant. The University seeks a dynamic, visionary leader who promotes excellence, cultural competence, academic and student engagement, internationalization, career and internship development, and entrepreneurial engagement. This is a grant-funded, 12-month position, renewable each year for up to five (5) years. The Advising Services Manager will provide direct student support utilizing a "holistic student-centered strategy" to guide students across all student experiences and directly report to the Program Director.

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a directly related field form an accredited college or university.
  • At least three years (3) of experience working with college students from different cultural heritages and identities to facilitate the coexistence of people in a culturally diverse community.
  • Experience offering academic and career guidance to students, thereby helping them choose a career path.
  • Training in advising and related student services for undergraduates in all majors with a focus on significantly improving 4-year graduation rates for first year students and closing identified achievement gaps.
  • Experience coordinating advising and programs supporting student retention, including proactive outreach and support to targeted student populations who do not meet established benchmarks.
  • Knowledge of retention strategies and data-driven methods of identifying student who may be at risk of not continuing their education.
  • Ability to plan develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs, activities, and groups.
  • Direct report to the Program Director.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director for Academic Engagement & Student Success
  • Responsible for directing student support and advising.
  • Review, assess and align all undergraduate majors with a guided pathways framework.
  • Responsible for training faculty and professional advisors.
