Position Summary
The Director of Corporate Relations is a key engagement and fundraising professional who will plan a key role in advancing the University’s relationships with business and industry by independently managing a portfolio of identified sector companies and foundations specific to healthcare and education
The Director of Corporate Relations will develop company and institution-specific engagement and solicitation strategies that align the company’s goals for impact and investment to University initiatives. This director will work closely with academic, advancement, and unit leaders to solicit significant and meaningful gifts. This director will work collaboratively across teams to implement high-impact and diverse engagement strategies for identified companies ensuring high-quality experiences for University funders.
This role offers a balance of autonomous decision-making, critical thinking, and collaboration, while providing the opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders. Regular travel (40% of the week), including occasional evening and weekend events, is required to foster corporate relationships and achieve fundraising and engagement goals.

Corporate & Foundation Fundraising
- Maintains a portfolio of active relationships with sector-specific local and national corporations and foundations appropriate for partnership with the University of Memphis.
- Conducts research to identify corporate and foundation prospects for the institution and specific programs that align with the university’s strategic direction and goals.
- Partners with appropriate faculty, staff, and university leadership to identify and align funding priorities with corporate and foundation prospects to achieve individualized cultivation strategies for each.
- Arranges and participates in visits with corporate and foundation leadership.
- Manages stewardship and impact reporting process for assigned corporate and foundation donors.
- Meets annual fundraising goals by submitting and closing proposals based on a collaborative strategy with partners across the institution.
- Communicates effectively with the offices of Corporate & Foundation Relations, Advancement, Sponsored Programs, Government Relations, and others as needed for corporate and foundation funding needs and the corporate engagement and fundraising process.
- Responsible for tracking and generating reports required for due diligence to internal and external partners.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and comprehensive records within the Advancement CRM and other utilized data systems
Corporate & Foundation Engagement
- Responsible for setting and achieving company and foundation specific engagement goals, aligning company’s interest for impact with University programs, initiatives and services.
- Expands the number of strategic corporate and foundation partners engaged with assigned colleges and assess them appropriately.
- Implements innovative, meaningful, and best-practice engagement strategies for college-specific company and foundation prospects.
- Accountable for compliance of gifts by corporations and foundations.
Team Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnerships
- Builds and maintains productive partnerships with deans, faculty, and administrative leaders to ensure fundraising strategies reflect academic priorities and institutional goals.
- Collaborates with the Director of Foundation Relations to ensure alignment of proposal and grant submissions to maximize opportunities for University funding collectively.
- Coordinates with the Philanthropy & Foundation teams to qualify companies and receive company gifts appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinates with the Engagement Team including advancement communications, annual giving, donor success, and alumni relations to ensure funders experience a seamless, high-quality engagement journey across all advancement efforts.
- Participates in regular team meetings, cross-unit planning sessions, and collaborative initiatives that support shared performance goals.
- Proactively models and activates Advancement’s core values – Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellent Communication- in daily interactions and team culture.
Performs other duties as assigned.
