Job Summary:

TRC is seeking a Director of Engineering on behalf of our client, a leader in custom upfitting solutions for fleet vehicles. This individual will lead and manage the engineering department, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of innovative upfitting solutions.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in truck body assembly, upfitting, and engineering design, along with strong leadership and project management skills. This role is critical in ensuring high-quality, cost-effective solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards while driving operational excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Team Development:

• Lead, mentor, and supervise the engineering team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
• Establish and maintain engineering goals, standards, and timelines to exceed client expectations.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Product Design & Development:

• Oversee the design and integration of custom upfitting solutions, including modifications to truck bodies and specialized vehicle systems.
• Utilize engineering software (CAD, schematics, blueprints) to develop detailed technical specifications.
• Ensure designs are cost-effective, practical, and compliant with industry regulations and safety standards.
• Apply expertise in truck body assembly, materials, and upfitting techniques to enhance vehicle functionality and durability.

Project & Process Management:

• Manage multiple upfitting projects, ensuring they remain on schedule and within budget.
• Work closely with production, operations, and sales teams to align engineering solutions with business objectives.
• Identify process improvements and cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

• Collaborate with the quality assurance team to ensure all upfitting solutions meet regulatory and safety requirements.
• Implement and uphold safety standards in both design and assembly processes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Maintain accurate documentation for engineering designs, project updates, and modifications throughout the upfitting process.

Customer Collaboration & Strategic Planning:

• Engage directly with clients and stakeholders to understand their upfitting needs and provide expert recommendations.
• Ensure all customizations align with customer expectations, industry best practices, and compliance requirements.
• Provide regular project updates to senior management and key stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in truck body assembly, upfitting, and vehicle customization.
• Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and technical professionals.
• Strong background in engineering design, project management, and troubleshooting.
• Expertise in CAD software and other engineering tools for blueprint and schematic development.
• Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and compliance in upfitting and vehicle customization.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities for cross-department coordination.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
