UConn Health is searching for a Quality Assurance Specialist. This position is accountable for coordinating patient complaints and grievances, monitoring patient experience performance measures and facilitating compliance with regulatory requirements. This position will work in the Office of Patient Experience located on campus in Farmington, CT
SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 30-minute unpaid meal break.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May perform lead/supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Establishes and maintains effective, up-to-date data management and filing systems for quality assurance records.
Designs, compiles designated reports to reflect unit based and department wide activities.
Chairs meetings; abstracts core measures concurrent to care and retrospectively for JCAHO/CMS.
Abstracts and analyzes data to identify trends and issues and takes appropriate action.
Promulgates standards for unit quality assurance activities and reporting.
Provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate documentation for compliance with external and internal performance and quality measurement requirements.
Assesses effectiveness of plans and activities; makes recommendations for change; coordinates responses to regulatory agencies; interfaces with other disciplines to manage selected issues and develop efficient reporting systems to increase compliance with core measures.
Maintains awareness of current JCAHO and new trends in quality assurance.
Communicates with physicians to adherence to core measure protocols
Serves as a consultant regarding Q.A. issues.
Educates staff and physicians to core measurement criteria, documentation and best practice goals
Identifies opportunities for research indicated by Q. A. findings.
Participates in designing and/or conducting relevant research.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of the principles practices, and current trends in patient relations, regulatory compliance and clinical care standards.
Knowledge of quality assurance methods, applicable program rules and relevant State and Federal regulations.
Knowledge of medical/technical terminology.
Must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain professional demeanor with patients, visitors, staff and physicians in high-stress situations.
Considerable knowledge of office procedures and etiquette.
Proficient with data analysis and use of Excel and Microsoft Word.
Ability to take initiative, to organize and prioritize work in a fast paced, high volume setting, and to be receptive to change.
Some supervisory ability.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Bachelor's degree in Nursing and minimum four (4) years experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Two (2) years of the general experience must have been gained through active participation in Quality Assurance .
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:
A Master's degree in Nursing may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS;
Nursing leadership, patient Advocate, patient relations, patient experience, care coordination, population health, and home health care.
Experience performing outreach post discharge calls to provide care transition interventions, including a review of the discharge plan, address concerns, and request care experience feedback.
Demonstrated ability to support patient rights and responsibilities, advocate for patient/family needs, and facilitate the resolution of patient follow-up concerns.
Experience in analyzing productivity, trends, and safety incidents and report to identify areas of opportunity such as reeducation, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Demonstrated ability to analyze, understand, and translate general health system data to key stakeholders.
Experience in developing and implementing patient experience improvement projects and programs.
Demonstrated work experience reviewing and navigating Epic electronic patient medical record system.
Experience with Datix/RL6 or other feedback/quality reporting systems
