Job Description
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives (VC BOSI), this position is responsible for managing the fiscal and human resource functions for the division including Campus Dining Services, the Mizzou Store, Parking & Transportation, Venue Management, Reservations & Events, Gustin Golf Course, Concert Series, Show-Me-State Games, and KOMU-TV. This position provides oversight and coordination to advance the strategic initiatives and deliverables of the Business Operations department.
The business and finance officer will play an integral role in the planning, forecasting, and integration of critical performance initiatives into the multi-year planning model for the university.
S/he will lead the development, management, and projection of the units operating and capital budgets, including overseeing the development of comprehensive budget and management reports.
Continuous improvement and a transformative mindset will be key to furthering the university’ complex and cross functional business objectives.
The individual represents Business Operations, takes part in discussion and project work, and works to implement designated actions and activities.
S/he must have exceptional communication skills, be flexible, and quickly adapt to rapid change and multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Responsibilities include:
Partner with department leaders to ensure budget allocations, revenue targets, and financial decisions are in alignment with unit and campus-wide strategic priorities and goals.
Develop, analyze, and present reports to assist with decision-making.
Explore and/or analyze funding opportunities and cost-reduction efficiencies to support a financially sustainable college.
Regularly provide information to leaders including Directors, Deans, Vice Chancellors, community representatives and other external stakeholders.
Assess operating results in terms of profitability and performance against budget.
Recommend operating effectiveness improvements for the units, serving as a trusted advisor to the leadership team.
Provide accurate and timely historical and projected financial and operational information and analysis, including presentation of financial results compared to plan.
Provide advice and counsel to leadership on interpretation of operating results and trends. Assist with recommendations of action plans where required.
Oversee strategic projects with a focus on change management initiatives that require cross functional resource allocation.
In collaboration with unit leadership, create a business model including the market analysis, market-based pricing model for unit functions, and financial plan and projections.
Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation and leads the preparation of the annual budget in consultation with the MU Finance & Administration and university senior leadership.
Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, Joint Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing (JSOCM).
Maintain oversight for projects supporting Business Operations to ensure that all are effectively moving according to plan objectives, resource allocations, established milestones, and measurement criteria. Working with unit leadership, effectively address emergent issues, garner appropriate resources, and resolve issues before they require escalation.
Provide outreach, mentorship, and professional development to staff across the department to build capacity and enable succession planning.
Provide leadership for department-level fiscal staff throughout Business Operations including ensuring effective training, support, and guidance, interpretation of policies, procedures, and best practice advice.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial oversight including ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, reviewing and/or approving variety of transactions, maintaining signature authority for college-wide purchases, and approving fiscal and human resources security and actions. Oversee the processes of payroll reconciliation, travel authorization, purchasing card reconciliation, internal controls, and other fiscal activities.
Additional duties and responsibilities may be expected to support the mission and priorities of Business Operations and the University of Missouri.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Recognizable as a leader, possessing outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with a broad set of executives and constituencies.
Strong results orientation with demonstrated record of accomplishment of success as an Influential leader.
Strong interpersonal skills, presentation and negotiation skills and ability to work in fast-paced and independent environments.
Demonstrated success collaborating across organizational lines to ensure strong working relationships with academic units, research centers, and administration.
Ability in building and sustaining high performing teams.
Experience in liaising with multiple contacts at various levels to achieve results.
High degree of adaptability and ability to drive results though out the organization.
Strong quantitative and technical skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or other advanced degree in relevant areas of study.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $88,479-$170,000 Annually
