After Hours Dispatcher - Night Shift
Village Travel is seeking an After-Hours Dispatcher for our location in Wichita, Kansas. This is a full-time position responsible for handling general phone calls and after-hour emergencies for all eight of our locations. The drivers you will be helping could be anywhere in the US. You must be quick to respond in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment while maintaining composure under pressure.
The schedule is nights 5pm-5am, with a rotating schedule. Working 2 days on, then getting 3 days off, then working 3 days on, and getting 2 days off. This schedule allows you every other weekend off! This is not a remote position and is based out of our Wichita Kansas location.
Compensation and Benefits: Pay starts at approx. $21 per hour and you can participate in our Health, Dental, Vision, Company Paid Life Insurance and 401k Matching Plan. After 90 days you will receive 1 week of PTO and at your one-year anniversary, begin receiving 2 weeks off each year. This is in addition to 7 paid holidays!
What’s a normal night like:
You will field 0-50 calls depending on the night. Some of them are as simple as a driver needing their paperwork emailed to them. The extreme case would be a driver having mechanical problems in a city far from home and is loaded with passengers needing to get to an event. Between these two, there’s hundreds of examples such as a passenger calling about a phone left on a bus or a mechanic calling to let you know they need to switch out buses for a trip departing the next day. While you work by yourself, you’ll have in person interactions with those in Wichita and many over the phone. At 5am, there’s a hand-off to the 1st shift dispatch. The person who excels in this position is a friendly, self-starter who is proactive at finding issues and fixing them before they happen.
