Job Overview:
The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) delivers comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based care to adult patients on a fast-paced medical-surgical unit. The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans while ensuring patient safety and optimizing recovery. This role requires active participation in patient and family education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and adherence to both hospital and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Coordinate, delegate, and implement nursing interventions for assigned patients.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
- Educate patients and families on health conditions and post-discharge care.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with hospital policy.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support patient-centered care.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based projects.
- Support new staff and student nurses through mentorship and preceptorship.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Follow all United Health Services values and policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 6 months – 3 years of RN experience; 5 years preferred
- Demonstrated skills in collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and time management
- Experience in acute care or ambulatory settings preferred
- Ability to adapt in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
Education Requirements:
- Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Licensure & Certifications:
- Required:
- Current NYS Registered Nurse License
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or Red Cross)
- Preferred:
- ACLS, PALS, or TNCC (as applicable by unit)
- Specialty nursing certification (e.g., Med-Surg RN-BC)
Additional Information:
- Contract role with 48 guaranteed hours/week
- Night shifts – 4x12s (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Must meet unit-specific compliance and certification matrix requirements prior to start
