Position Description: The Student Support Services Peer Tutor serves as a peer tutor primarily for the Student Support Services program with services also available to any Barton student. Note: Employment is limited to 20 hours per week during the academic year. Position Responsibilities: 49.00% - Provide tutorial assistance to students in general education. 21.00% - Provide tutorial assistance to students in technical areas.
20.00% - Provide peer mentoring of study skills. 5.00% - Maintain accurate account of student contact information to provide grant documentation. 5.00% - Complete ten hours of tutor training per semester. Expectations: Demonstrate knowledge of tutoring techniques.
Students assisted by peer tutors will benefit academically from tutoring in their coursework. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Previous tutoring experience is not required. Education - Must have met high academic standards in the areas which they tutor and have been recommended by two previous instructors. Other Skills - Interpersonal skills, computer knowledge and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special demands are required to perform the work.
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom. Wages/Other: Wages for this position are $7.60 an hour. Job Advertisement: Provide tutorial assistance to students in general education and technical areas. Provide peer mentoring of study skills.
