What are the responsibilities and job description for the Science Lab Coordinator position at Coconino Community College?
Under limited supervision, maintains the science laboratories for the disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Forestry, and Geology; oversees and supervises the preparation of laboratories for the classroom with 2 temporary, part-time staff. This is a full-time, 12-month benefit eligible position, typically M-F, 8-5, with daily availability for questions and troubleshooting with faculty and staff.

- Full Salary Range: $50,723 - $75,069/annually - depending on education and experience
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,723 - $62,896/annually - depending on education and experience
- Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay

- Supervise part-time staff: train, prioritize, and assign work; evaluate performance and make hiring, firing, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Maintain adequate inventory, recommend purchases, communicates with outside vendors.
- Coordinate with faculty to plan, design, coordinate, and recommend facility changes and equipment needs, including new products and technology; ensure regular maintenance of equipment.
- Monitor area budgets for accuracy and discrepancies, ensures that the budget is appropriately utilized to manage and upgrade lab infrastructure but not overspent.
- Assist the Dean of Arts and Sciences with annual budget development; sustain communication about budget with departmental faculty and the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
- Oversee the daily operations of the lab prep area for all science classes, including but not limited to preparation of chemical solutions, microbiological media and cultures, molecular/biological lab equipment, and adequately stocked consumables.
- In coordination with Human Resources, manage all aspects of safety and security of staff, students, and equipment to compliance with local state, federal regulations (chemical and biological safety; OSHA training and disposal procedures).
- Complete training in laboratory safety and hazardous waste disposal, maintain currency.
- Ensure that faculty and staff are aware of hazardous waste disposal training; Arrange annual disposal of hazardous waste in collaboration with proper collection agencies.
- Update and maintain safety manuals for laboratory procedures for classroom and preparatory area and conduct routine inspection and maintenance of safety equipment.
- Coordination of updates and maintenance for laboratory prep manuals for student lab activities with faculty.
- Assist faculty with equipment and supplies; offer technical assistance as needed.
- Responsible for working with other areas of the College to perform tasks such as ordering any supplies/equipment as needed for course related labs and handling shipments as they come in.
- Coordinating field trip logistics and receipts – vehicle rentals, hotel rooms/campsites, gas/food receipts.

Knowledge of science lab maintenance principles and practices. Skill in supervising and training others. Skill in oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, and 3 years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources department.
