The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the daily accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial data, preparing financial reports, and maintaining compliance with internal controls. This role is critical in a fast-paced, project-based environment where accurate job costing, asset tracking, and operational reporting are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage general ledger activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Oversee job costing processes, ensuring accurate tracking of materials, labor, and equipment for each project or rental agreement.
- Coordinate billing and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing and collections from construction clients.
- Assist in managing accounts payable, including vendor invoice approvals and timely payments.
- Support fixed asset accounting, including tracking of rental fence inventory and depreciation schedules.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and financial procedures.
- Help coordinate external audits and work closely with tax preparers and CPA firms.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes across departments.
- Work closely with operations and project managers to provide financial insights and support.
- Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, or similar) to maintain records and reports.
- Train and support junior accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or rental services industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with construction accounting software or ERP systems.
- Knowledge of WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting.
- Familiarity with lien releases, prevailing wage reporting, and construction billing formats (e.g., AIA).
- Background in equipment rental or inventory management is a plus.
Compensation: $115,000 to $125,000 annually
