What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mountain Base Area Operator position at Sun Valley Resort?
The Mountain Base Operator assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the outdoor areas in the summer and winter seasons, for which the base operations department is responsible. The operator must operate the department's tools and equipment in a safe, efficient, and effective manner to complete all assignments and duties.
Duties & Responsibilities.
- Provide daily labor for base area maintenance, including removal of loose trash, emptying of assigned trash cans, removal of excess dirt and sand, sweeping, etc
- Sustain all permanent and temporary signs in the base area for summer and winter, including proper attachment, adequate spacing, proper alignment, satisfactory appearance, snow removal, banner flag attachment and placement, adequate wording, and cleaning
- Maintain all walkways and sidewalks to ensure neat appearance and safe access to our guests and employees, including but not limited to the removal of snow by machine or by hand, marking of temporary obstacles, removal of hazards, sweeping, ice removal, traction control, to include documentation of activity and ensuring adequate drainage
- Uphold base area ski racks, including moving racks to prevent freezing to the ground, snow removal, and repair or replacement of broken or missing parts
- Support base area fixtures, including trash cans, outdoor tables/chairs, drain covers, grates, culverts, and light posts
- Maintain grass mowing and weed
- With direction, appropriately mark all hazards and obstacles to ensure the safety of all guests and employees. Marking any fixture or accessory ensures no damage from traffic or plowing operations
- Develop and maintain proficient and efficient skills in the use of departmental tools and equipment, including all general maintenance/construction power and hand tools, 299 skid steer, 938 loaders, and sweeper
- Provide labor as requested for general construction and maintenance
- Equip special assistance to on-mountain and base area unique events, including event set-up, support, and tear-down activities
- Preserve all equipment, vehicles and tools and report all repair/replacement needs to the vehicle Maintenance Department
- Sustain good housekeeping practices in work areas and locker facilities. Work sites and company vehicles
- Uphold a working knowledge of Sun Valley Base Areas (River Run, Warm Springs, Dollar Mountain, and Cold Springs)
Qualifications
- Work in adverse weather conditions in an outdoor
- Communicate effectively verbally with guests and employees
- Work weekends and holidays as needed
- Able to work the early morning shift or late afternoon
- Recognize and maintain high standards in all finish details and appearance
- Required to stand, walk, use hands to manage, feel or operate objects, tools and controls and reach with hands and arms
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and lift/or move up to 50 lbs
- Vision requirements include 20/20 eyesight or correctable to near 20/20
