What are the responsibilities and job description for the TCEQ - Information Specialist IV position at TEXAS COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY?
Performs advanced informational work, to include researching and writing news releases, responding to media inquiries, coordinating social media, and assisting with media news events for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Responds to high-profile inquiries or requests for interviews by the news media regarding activities of, or related to, the TCEQ by conducting interviews, researching various sources, and consulting with management. Acts as liaison between reporters and the agency; and coordinates media visits and on-site interviews. Researches and writes informational material for release to news media and other products/projects to include blogs, video scripts and public service announcements; plans and executes their distribution at the request of management. Coordinates and evaluates the preparation of online publication to include reviewing the content of related material, conducting interviews, collecting data, writing copy, and coordinating with appropriate staff for production and distribution via traditional and social media outlets. Ensures releases posted on the TCEQ website conform to agency and accessibility standards. Assists in preparation and distribution of the daily news clips. Coordinates the creation, editing, and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content for TCEQ social media platforms. Prepares monthly reports and analytics to track and compare agency social media efforts across platforms. Collaborates with other divisions to build and execute social media strategy through research and audience identification. Develops and implements social media goals and objectives for emergency responses. Assists the media relations manager in planning and executing media news events, including news conferences. Attends public meetings and acts as liaison between reporters and the agency. Coordinates written content and gathers ideas for proactive media relations during and/or after public meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree with a major in journalism, public relations, advertising, communications, English, or a natural resources or science related field (COPY OF OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION), plus three years of full-time experience in writing, scripting, editing, related areas in communications, or in positions involving such activities as journalism, outreach, public relations, advertising, preparation of public information releases and reports, and other news materials, or performing related activities in a public or private enterprise.

Four years of full-time experience in writing, scripting, editing, related areas in communications, or in positions involving such activities as journalism, outreach, public relations, advertising, preparation of public information releases and reports, and other news materials, or performing related activities in a public or private enterprise.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience answering news media inquiries.
Experience writing feature stories and/or blogs.
Experience with various social media platforms.
Condition of Employment:
